Our ministries are an important and integral part of our church community. Whether you are a student, single or married there is a ministry designed for you. Please read about our ministries and consider becoming an active member of our community of faith.
Sunday school is a great opportunity to connect with others in the church. The Christian life is never a solo journey. Christians need consistent encouragement from each other in order to persevere in faith and live lives characterized by love and obedience to Christ. We believe Sunday school is an excellent way to facilitate the mutual encouragement, care, and service that the Bible calls the local church body to practice toward one another. To that end, we offer Sunday school classes where we can come together and share, pray, fellowship and study the word of God in smaller groups.
Characteristics of the St. John’s Sunday School
How are our Sunday School classes set up?
Sunday School Times:
The Preschool / Children’s Ministry exists to help children come to know Jesus as their savior, learn Christian values, and become effective Disciples in the world. We meet these goals by offering fun and relevant times of worship, Bible study, and fellowship including; Sunday School, Extended Session, and our weekly (during the school year) Children’s Bible Study – Word-of-Life.
All of our volunteers that work with children and youth have a background check through the church.
Ongoing Children’s Events & Information
Every Sunday 9:30 am – Sunday School
Every Sunday during the 11:00 am Service:
*Preschool Extended Session: Each Sunday after Sunday School, Nursery, Preschool, and Kindergarten aged children may stay in their Sunday School class for Extended Session.
*Children grades 1-5: Each Sunday the children are encouraged to go to the Sanctuary with their families in worship service. During worship service they have a special time for a Children’s Sermon presented by the Student Minister, helping them understand God’s message. Then during the second song of the music set, the children will depart for Children’s Church. Children’s Church is a time of age-appropriate worship for our children where they will receive a message from our Student Minister that goes along with the theme that the pastor is discussing in the main worship center.
The Youth Ministry provides an opportunity for 6th – 12th-grade youth to learn more about Jesus Christ, their Savior, and to fellowship together. Mission trips, conferences, Bible studies, fun activities and mission projects help the youth to become responsible Christian adults. In the past, we have done skiing/snowboarding, white water rafting, lock-ins, laser quest, skating, Slip N’ Slide Kickball, and many other fun activities. See below for upcoming events.
Please join this exciting church program as we enjoy this time of prayer, Bible Study, and sharing in Christian Fellowship.

Our Adult Bible Study meets on Sunday evenings from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Charlie Atkinson is teaching this and does a fantastic job. His knowledge of the Bible is truly a blessing to all who attend. If you want to learn the Bible and have your questions answered, then this is the study for you.
The Ladies’ Bible Study meets on Friday mornings at 9:30 am. We usually study for an hour, but sometimes longer if we are really involved. We started our study with Genesis and our plan right now is to go through the Bible chronologically, which proves to be very interesting. As of February, we are studying King Solomon and his reign. We have a wonderful time sharing info from our different translations of study Bibles. Please join us for learning, fun and fellowship.
Our study time includes; Dinner, Bible Study, and Games each week. We use the Huddle House type atmosphere, giving us freedom as a small group to openly discuss and learn what God has in store for our lives as we learn and study His word.
The Men of St John’s invite you to our monthly breakfast meeting. We meet the third Saturday of each month and start the meeting with a big breakfast at 8:00 am, the cost for breakfast is $5.00 as we do not want to have the church incur any cost for the breakfast.
We are led by Brother Dan Terry who is truly on fire for the Lord. The men so far have decided to help the members of our church with a primary emphasis on the elderly and widows’ with whatever they need help with. We have started a list of the gifts that the men are blessed with so that as a need arises we can match the need to the man.
We have also discussed getting involved with new church plants and the hurricane relief ministry. There are so many things that the men of our church can do with the Lords help, we started with approximately 35 men and hope that every man at St. John’s will join us.

The Woman’s Missionary Union has been an active missions organization at St. John’s for about a hundred years. Women have been an integral part of leading the cause for mission activities in our church and throughout the Southern Baptist Convention. They have been active in raising funds for the support of missionaries during the life of St. John’s.
Currently, they meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am in the Ruth classroom. All women are invited to a morning of fellowship, missionary study, and prayer. Also, this is a time of planning and preparing for various mission projects. Each month we are involved in a mission activity.
As the song “We’ve a Story to Tell” says, we really do take seriously the mandate from Jesus Himself– “Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
The goal of all our activities is for that purpose–spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ to our community, our state, our country and our world. Below are a few of our recent mission activities.
Thank you St. John’s for your continued support of our WMU ministries.
One of the annual Easter ministries of our WMU is to collect contributions for North American missionaries and their ministries through the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. Our goal this year was $2500 and we have reached that goal. Thank you, St. John’s!!
Another is remembering our firemen in nearby fire stations with Easter baskets.
Mother’s Day Tea
Our mission project included with the Tea was a Baby Shower for the Baby Boutique located at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church. This is a ministry that provides baby essentials to needy families. At our tea, we collected six large grocery bags full of new items–also packages of diapers and wipes.
Pure Water/Pure Love
This is a ministry that provides water filters and wells for our missionaries in the US and throughout the world. March 22nd was World Water Day and we launched a campaign of collecting coins in water bottles for this cause.
Music is an integral part of our worship experience. Our music ranges from traditional hymns to anthems, with music from our praise and worship team as well as our choir.
In both groups, our participants come from many different backgrounds, from being proficient in reading music to those learning by rote, but all having a desire to serve God through music. New members are always welcome. Just come to rehearsals so that together we can lead our congregation in exalting our God.
